Fabrizio Romano has delivered significant updates on key transfer developments across Europe, shedding light on the futures of Raul Asencio at Real Madrid, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United, and Christopher Nkunku at Chelsea.
Asencio’s Future Secured at Real Madrid
Romano confirmed that Real Madrid have triggered a contract extension for Raul Asencio, keeping him at the club until June 2029. Initially tied to a deal expiring in 2026 with a €50 million release clause, the club moved to secure Asencio’s future and eliminate the release clause. This strategic move aims to reward the player and fend off interest from other clubs.
“Asencio was never considering leaving,” Romano stated. “Real Madrid acted swiftly to secure his future.” The Spanish giants are also in early talks for a fresh contract that could keep Asencio at the club until 2031.
Chelsea’s Sancho Dilemma
Romano also addressed Jadon Sancho’s situation at Chelsea. The winger joined on loan from Manchester United with a £25 million purchase obligation, dependent on Chelsea’s Premier League standing. However, Chelsea hold an option to return Sancho to United for £5 million.
“Chelsea are happy with Sancho despite his recent dip in form,” said Romano. Sancho himself is keen to remain at Chelsea, but United are not planning to reintegrate him into the squad. Chelsea will reassess the situation at the end of the season before making a final decision.
Rashford Impresses at Aston Villa
Marcus Rashford’s loan spell at Aston Villa has been positive, with the club holding a £40 million purchase option. Romano noted that Villa’s management, including director Monchi and coach Unai Emery, are pleased with Rashford’s attitude and performances.
“Villa will decide on Rashford’s future after assessing their financial position and European qualification prospects,” Romano reported.
Nkunku Eyes Chelsea Exit
Christopher Nkunku’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain. Romano indicated that the French forward could seek a permanent transfer this summer, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United previously showing interest.
“Nkunku wants regular playing time, and Chelsea are open to letting him leave if the right offer comes,” Romano stated. Other Chelsea players, including Kepa Arrizabalaga and Raheem Sterling, may also be on the move.
Romano’s insights highlight the shifting dynamics as Europe’s top clubs prepare for a crucial summer transfer window.
