Romano: Isak Deal ‘Almost Impossible’ as Newcastle Slam Door on Big Clubs

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on some of the most talked-about names ahead of the summer window, including Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres, and Alexander Isak, with several Premier League heavyweights ready to spend big.

Manchester United and Chelsea are leading the chase for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. Despite interest across Europe, Romano reports that both clubs are the frontrunners, especially with a £30 million relegation clause potentially kicking in if Ipswich drop to the Championship. Delap is considered a value target due to his form, low wages, and Manchester City’s buy-back and sell-on clauses. Chelsea explored a deal in January, while United are now looking closer as they navigate Financial Fair Play constraints.

Meanwhile, United may be preparing to offload Rasmus Hojlund to make space in their attack. Interest from Serie A is heating up, with Juventus and Napoli among the suitors eyeing a move for the Danish striker, whom United signed from Atalanta.

In Portugal, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is all but certain to leave. Arsenal are monitoring the €65–70 million-rated Swede closely. United and new sporting director Andrea Berta are also admirers, but the deal remains open. Gyokeres has an informal agreement with Sporting’s president allowing for a discounted exit below his release clause.

Elsewhere, Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is attracting attention from Newcastle, who are reportedly aware of his £62.5 million release clause. United are also interested, though no negotiations have started.

Finally, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is being pursued by top clubs, but his sky-high valuation is proving a major hurdle. Arsenal and Liverpool are monitoring the Swedish striker, while Barcelona are priced out entirely. Newcastle are determined to keep Isak, and Romano says only a “crazy” offer would make them reconsider.

As the transfer window nears, all eyes are on how these blockbuster moves unfold—with Premier League clubs ready to battle it out.
